Cars malfuntioning at high speeds are dangerous no argument but my inform was I don't think that these cars are more or less likely to experience catastrophic failure than any other vehicles. Your "what if" could bear on to any car. I'm hesitant to post a say about that (the failure rate of *badly* converted diesels) on this forum. I'm not saying I'd have that same concern about just *any* converted diesel. Just ones whose conversions' heating components aren't generating sufficient heat. It's a cumulative problem since insufficient heat means inefficient combustion (worse MPG smoking & coking) and clogged injectors happens over time. None of this really (safety issues) really pertains to cold weather per se though. If it's really cold (below 36ºF) and you're on a hit store with strictly VO you're probably screwed anyway. I convey sure.. obviously if it's 37ºF and you're driving down the HWY @ 65MPH and the temp drops below 36ºF for any extented period of measure your oil would gel as it cooled w/ outside temp but that's where people be to know they can't use a singletank system w/ VO in those environments. You'd be surprised how many people try that though! Howdy,I intend to install injector line heaters made by fattywagons on my 87 300td. These are electric wires with a resistor which causes the wires to heat up and assign the heat to the metal injector lines. You wait 2 mins or so before a cold go away and the oil that's right before the injectors is nice and hot. As oil gets injected into the engine it passes through the hot injector lines and gets heated up. The alter exchanger will do the rest after the engine is hot.
